US government proposes to shut down gun blogs and fan sites.

"SHUT UP!!!" they explained.

Y'all might want to show up for this riot.

Commonly used and unregulated internet discussions and videos about guns and ammo could be closed down under rules proposed by the State Department, amounting to a "gag order on firearm-related speech," the National Rifle Association is warning.
In updating regulations governing international arms sales, State is demanding that anyone who puts technical details about arms and ammo on the web first get the OK from the federal government — or face a fine of up to $1 million and 20 years in jail.

According to the NRA, that would include blogs and web forums discussing technical details of common guns and ammunition, the type of info gun owners and ammo reloaders trade all the time.
"Gunsmiths, manufacturers, reloaders, and do-it-yourselfers could all find themselves muzzled under the rule and unable to distribute or obtain the information they rely on to conduct these activities," said the NRA in a blog posting.

There are some days when I'm happy that I live in Canada. Should this gag order come to pass I'm sure the number of gun posts to The Phantom Soap Box will go up substantially.

Truthfully, I'd been expecting something like this.

I think the whole do-it-yourself gunsmith culture came as a massive shock to Obama and his cronies, and now they've realized that unless they stamp it out, banning guns - even confiscating them - isn't enough, because people can just make more. That *terrifies* them. So yeah, I'd been watching for something like this.

It's a bit depressing how predictable the left is.

Yeah, I think they would very much like to shut down the Defense Distributed boys and chuck them all in jail.

Apparently the US government now views the US citizenry as a huge threat to the USA. Some very big wigs have suddenly discovered that all you need to make as many guns as you want is a metal lathe and a bunch of bar stock. Cheaper if you have a sheetmetal brake and a welder, then you can make Uzis and AKs and Sterlings.

Then there's the guy who made a pretty nice AK out of a shovel.

For that matter I'm pretty sure you could make a Feather AT-9 out of a Maglight.

Therefore, obviously, they don't want us talking about it. Stupid bastards still don't understand that this Internet genie thing is OUT of the bottle. Even if the entire Web gets shut down, plus the entire telephone system, they still can't shut us up.
